Architect

Description:

Full-time entry-level architect with a four or five year degree on the path to licensure with fewer than 2 years of experience.
A cornerstone of L+M’s practice is the preservation and restoration of historic buildings. Whether they’re designated landmarks or simply structures of quality, these buildings, well used over time, often require attention to perform in today’s hi-tech world. Our goal, besides preserving and restoring them as representatives of our past, is to assure that they continue to serve today and function as integral parts of New York’s identity and future.

General Characteristics:

• Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area.
• Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
• Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work.

Direction Received:

• Receives close supervision on unusual or difficult problems, and general review of all aspects of work.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Performs basic design tasks.
• Assists on other tasks such as: preparation of permit applications, material testing, drawings, and computer aided design (CAD) work.

Managerial Responsibilities:

• Assigns tasks to and coordinates with technicians or administrative staff.

Communication Skills:

• Interacts with staff, general public, officials, and contractors.

Designer

Structural Engineer

Requirements:

Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Three to five years of relevant work experience. EIT Certification, PE license a plus. Proficiency in AutoCAD, knowledge of structural design software is a plus Proficiency in MS Office. Effective communicator that is fluent in English Intermediate ability in writing reports Ability to perform work individually or as part of a team. Transportation to and from offices and project locations Work with little supervision. Suspended/Stationary Scaffold Certification a plus. Must be US citizen or green card holder.

The purpose of this position is to provide inspection, surveying, and construction administration services for structural renovation/rehabilitation projects. Provide engineering supervision, advice, expertise and assistance with all structural-related construction and engineering issues related to projects.

Responsibilities:

• Read and comprehend construction documents.
• Calculate, prepare and review construction estimates and other related material.
• Communicate with Contractors and Owners.
• Prepare written reports, letters, field reports, and minutes of meetings.
• Inspect existing field conditions and determine appropriate repairs.
• Observe installed work for conformance to design documents and direct Contractor personnel.
• Provide design and analysis of structural components of buildings and other structures.
• Prepare and analyze plans for static and dynamic loading to ensure the structures support and resist the loads they are subjected to.
• Determine creative and efficient solutions to engineering issues.
• Provide designs, drawings, specifications and other technical submissions.
• Administer construction contracts and the coordination of any elements of technical submissions prepared by others.
• Review and make recommendations on whether to approve construction shop drawings, submittals, shoring plans and design calculations.

Energy Management Engineer

Position:

Entry level Engineering position. Analyze information related to energy auditing and conduct audits in residential and commercial buildings. Review customer utility bills to determine typical energy use. Perform measurement and verification (M & V) and Retro-commissioning; Utilize energy modeling applications and other simulation techniques to improve energy efficiency of buildings and advise customers on how to best conserve energy and lower energy costs. Contribute to design of new or existing HVAC systems to increase efficiency and comply with local energy codes. Apply sustainability techniques to improve the site energy use index (EUI). Document audit results through photos, checklists and detailed reports and submit findings to the assigned operations coordinator.

Education and Experience Required:

A master’s degree in mechanical engineering or the foreign degree equivalent with graduate level coursework in energy systems and design is required. Also, Mechanical Engineering research, coursework or practical experience with thermodynamics, load calculations and design for HVAC systems is required. Entry level engineering position; no specific amount of experience time is required but engineering skills are required.
